  • Borussia Dortmund are reportedly willing to let Jadon Sancho leave this summer for a fee of €100 million
  • Dortmund were asking upwards of €120 million for Sancho last summer
  • Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool are favorites to sign Sancho if he leaves

Over the past several years, Borussia Dortmund has gained a reputation for developing young talent. A number of big names have risen through the ranks at the club before ultimately leaving for greener pastures on massive transfer deals. Robert Lewandowski, Christian Pulisic, Mats Hummels, Ilkay Gundogan, and Ousmane Dembele are just a few of the bright young stars that came up through the Dortmund system before departing on big-money deals.

This year’s Dortmund side is no different. Erling Braut Haaland, Jadon Sancho, and Jude Bellingham have emerged as three of the brightest young talents in Europe, and it’s likely just a matter of time until Dortmund cashes in on all three of them.

Borussia Dortmund director Zorc to ARD: “We already had a gentlemen’s agreement with Jadon Sancho since last year that he can leave the club under certain conditions”. 🟡⚫️

The 21-year-old Sancho is believed by many to be the young star most likely to leave Dortmund in the summer of 2021. Manchester United have been heavily linked with Sancho over the past few years, but the England international will command a hefty price tag. According to ESPN, Dortmund will reportedly accept a minimum transfer fee of €100 million in order to let him leave in the upcoming window.

Dortmund Ready to Lower Asking Price

Sancho, who is under contract with his current club until 2023, was rumored to be on his way out last summer. However, no deal ever came about due in part to a variety of teams enduring financial trouble in light of the pandemic. Dortmund were also reluctant to slash his price tag until €120 million, which ultimately torpedoed interest in Sancho from several of his potential suitors.

However, Dortmund are now willing to let Sancho walk for as little as €100 million, which means they have backed off of their stance from last year a bit. There is no firm deadline for when a Sancho deal may be struck this summer, which leaves the team with plenty of time to negotiate his transfer fee even further.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc admitted in an interview over the weekend that there is a possibility that Sancho could leave the club soon. Zorc said,

“Already last year, we had a gentleman’s agreement with Sancho. There are certain conditions which need to be met so Jadon can leave the club. Timing and fee have been and still are the deciding parameters.”

United Still Favored to Sign Sancho

Sancho has racked up 46 goals and 62 assists across 133 appearances with Dortmund in all competitions. He has been slowed by injuries at various points this season, but he has still posted impressive totals of 12 goals and 18 assists in 34 appearances. Sancho began his youth career at Watford in 2007 before moving to the Manchester city academy in 2015. He left Manchester without making an appearance for the club in 2017 for €8 million, and he has since blossomed into one of the most impressive young stars in all of Europe.

Could the discounted price point be enough for United to bite? It’s possible.

The Red Devils are still presumptive favorites to land Sancho’s signature this summer at +250. Chelsea are a distant second at +800, followed by Liverpool (+1000), Manchester City (+1400), Arsenal (+1800), and Tottenham Hotspur (+2000). The only non-Premier League club with odds to sign Sancho are Dortmund’s arch-rivals, Bayern Munich, at +3300.
