Maryland’s casino industry demonstrated its strength in April 2023, with the state’s six casinos collectively generating $174.7 million in revenue from slot machines and table games over the past month.

This figure represents the sixth-highest monthly gaming revenue total in the history of Maryland’s casino program and reflects an increase of $3,997,260 (2.3%) compared to the same period in April 2022.


MGM National Harbor, April's top performer

The contributions made by the casinos to the state also showcased a slight growth during the month. In April 2023, casino gaming contributions reached $72.4 million, indicating a rise of $522,884 (0.7%) compared to the previous year.

Of those contributions, the Education Trust Fund received $52.6 million in April, representing an increase of $396,476 (0.8%) compared to the same month in 2022. It is important to note that casino gaming revenues not only support the Education Trust Fund but also benefit local communities, jurisdictions, the horse racing industry, as well as small and minority-owned businesses.

Maryland’s six privately owned casinos offer a diverse range of gaming options, including both slot machines and table games. These establishments include MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County, Live Casino & Hotel in Anne Arundel County, Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City, Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County, Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County, and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County. 


Live Casino Hotel, Maryland

Breaking down the gaming revenue totals for April 2023, MGM National Harbor emerged as the top performer with $75.5 million in revenue, experiencing a 7% increase compared to April 2022. Live Casino & Hotel placed second, generating $62 million, marking a rise of 5.5% from the previous year. However, Horseshoe Casino, the third revenue generator, experienced a decrease, earning $16.4 million, reflecting a decline of 13.2% compared to April 2022.

Ocean Downs Casino also witnessed a slight downturn, with revenue of $7.9 million in April, representing a decrease of 3.7% compared to 2022. Similarly, Hollywood Casino reported revenue of $7.5 million last month, experiencing a decline of $984,083 from the previous year. Rocky Gap Casino generated $5.4 million in April 2023, marking a decrease of 6.8% compared to April 2022.
