Money Split Leads to More Issues Booking Spence vs. Crawford

money-split-leads-to-more-issues-booking-spence-vs.-crawford

Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford are two of the best pound-for-pound boxers on the planet right now. They both fight at welterweight, yet booking a fight between them has proven nearly impossible. Most recently, issues with a money split have led to another problem booking Spence vs. Crawford.

This is a fight just about every single boxing fan wants to see. Today, we’ll talk about what needs to be done in order for this bout to come together. We’ll also discuss how this fight might play out if it does end up taking place.

Let’s get into it!

Errol Spence Jr. Proves He’s Still One of Boxing’s Best Fighters

The welterweight division has long-been one of the best in boxing. We’ve seen some of the most legendary fighters in history make their mark in the sport at 147 pounds. That includes Floyd Mayweather, Oscar De La Hoya, and Shane Mosley.

There’s now a new crop of world-class welterweights competing today. Most fans agree that Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford are the two best welterweights alive right now.

Crawford has gone 37-0 as a professional with 28 of his wins coming via knockout. He had one of his best finishes recently against Kell Brook. That win was his fourth-straight WBO welterweight title defense.

Errol Spence Jr. came back from a horrific car accident to take on Danny Garcia earlier this month. Most US online sportsbooks listed Spence as the considerable favorite in this bout. That ended up being correct, as he earned a clear decision win over Garcia.

The win for Spence was an extremely important one. Some feared he would look off after such a long layoff. It wasn’t the best performance of his career, yet Errol looked sharp and proved he can still beat the best fighters in the weight class.

Obviously, everyone is once again calling for Spence and Crawford to compete against one another. Money now seems to be the main issue with getting this fight booked.

Money Negotiations Delay Spence vs. Crawford Once Again

The sport of boxing has been plagued by many issues over the years. The main one seems to be the inability to get the best fighters to compete with one another. It’s a story as old as time with this sport and one that fans have somewhat gotten used to.

It won’t be easy to book a fight between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford. Both men are undefeated and won’t want to see a loss on their record. It’s an extremely dangerous fight for both men and the paychecks will need to be worth the risk.

Unfortunately, Errol Spence Jr. seems to feel that he’s worth more money. He recently claimed that he should receive a significantly larger percentage of the overall fight purse. Crawford disputes this fact and claims it’s clear that Spence is preventing this fight from coming together.

“I could go up to 160 and fight Canelo Alvarez,” Spence recently said during an interview. “But as I said, I’m the big dog and he [Crawford] got to take a backseat and take a 60-40 or 70-30 or whatever we give him.”

This doesn’t seem to make sense. Spence certainly has a large following, yet it’s hard to see how he would be entitled to such a larger percentage of the fight purse. Crawford also has a massive following and has considerably more fights than Errol.

Of course, seeing Spence vs. Canelo would be extremely interesting for fans.

Spence vs. Crawford is one of the biggest possible fights to make right now in boxing. If they can settle the money issue, this will be a serious revenue generator for these men. We’ll be sure to offer more updates on this situation over the next few weeks!

Joshua vs. Fury is Verbally Agreed to Take Place This Summer!

It’s always great when to see a real super fight take place in the boxing ring. These only come up every few years. As we already mentioned, getting the top fighters in the sport to compete with one another is simply too difficult these days.

One of the most highly-anticipated fights is the one between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. These two UK-based heavyweights are currently the best in the world. They’ve been on a collision course for years and seem to have finally agreed on a fight date.

Reports recently surfaced that Joshua and Fury have agreed to fight sometime over the summer. The most likely date seems to be in June. It’s an extremely exciting moment for fans and many are now wagering on who will come out on top.

BetOnline, one of the best internet sportsbooks in the world, is offering some incredible odds for each of these men. For now, Tyson Fury comes in as the -185 favorite. He’s coming off one of the best performances of all-time against Deontay Wilder and many feel he has a more well-rounded skill set than Joshua.

Anthony Joshua has improved a lot since his loss to Andy Ruiz in 2019. Most recently, he knocked out Kubrat Pulev in one of the best performances of his career. BetOnline lists him as the +165 underdog in this matchup.

There are some big fights on the horizon. Do you think we’ll see Spence vs. Crawford sometime next year? Let us know in the comments section below!
