On Friday, December 25th, the NFL will hold a special Christmas Day game as the Minnesota Vikings take on the New Orleans Saints.

Vikings vs Saints NFL Game Preview
These two NFC teams have played against each other 35 times and it’s the Vikings that holds a commanding 23-12 lead in the head to head series. They have also met five times in the Playoffs where the Vikings have won a few times in miraculous fashion.
- The Minnesota Vikings (6-8) are coming off a crushing loss to divisional rival the Chicago Bears as they are pretty much eliminated from the Playoffs despite still being on mathematical life support. Will the Vikings bounce back this week or further fall below .500?
- The New Orleans Saints (10-4) are coming off a competitive loss to the Chiefs where they played well considering Drew Brees was a little rusty and there was no Michael Thomas. Yet, they’re now one game back of the Packers for the top spot in the NFC and need to win this week to also stay atop the NFC South division.

The spread opened with the New Orleans Saints favored by 6.5 points. Since then, that line has gone up to 7 points in favor of the Saints with most NFL betting sites. The Over/Under opened at 52 points and has come down slightly to an O/U of 51.5 total points with most online betting sites.

The Vikings need the Cardinals and Bears to lose the rest of their games in order to have any chance at making the Playoffs. And, they need to win their final games as well.
Unfortunately, not only do I not see the Vikings making the postseason, but I don’t believe they will win this Christmas Day at New Orleans.
Over the last few years, the Vikings have been able to pull out some miraculous wins against the Saints in the Playoffs, but that good fortune is up.
This Minnesota team is not good. They turned their season around from a rough start, but they don’t have the defense to hang with the top teams in the NFC like New Orleans.
With that said, I do not feel confident in the Saints covering seven points when they’re 2-5 ATS this season as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5pts. Furthermore, the Vikings are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games at New Orleans.

I feel more confident in this game to go Under 51.5 total points (-110) than any other wager except for the Saints’ moneyline (-325), which offers no betting value.
For the Saints, the Under is 5-2 in their last seven games, 4-1 in their last five NFC games, and 2-1 in their last three meetings against the Vikings.
The Saints allow 21.2ppg and the Vikings allow 27.7ppg, which is a total of 48.9ppg. In their last 10 head to head meetings, these two teams have combined to average 47.6ppg. In their last three games, they’ve tallied 49.6ppg.
I don’t see this game being very competitive as I believe the Saints will get out to a sizable lead before the Vikings chip away. It’s this garbage time that has me worried that Minnesota could get lucky and cover the spread.
I expect the Saints to shut down Minnesota’s running game and force QB Kirk Cousins to beat them. He’s had a mixed bag of success in 2020 as he’s thrown 13 INTs on the season.
On the flip side, the Vikings defense won’t be able to stop the Drew Brees led Saints offense especially with running back Alvin Kamara being a dangerous weapon now that they have a passing game again. I’m taking the Saints to win 27 to 20 on Christmas Day.
