Packers vs Bears NFC North Game Preview

Including the Playoffs, these two teams have played each other 201 times. Yet, this weekend’s matchup will mark the 200th regular season game in the NFL’s oldest rivalry.

The Packers lead the series with a 100-95-6 record. Green Bay has won eight of the last nine meetings including a 41 to 25 victory in late November.

The Packers have also gone 9-1 in the last 10 games at Chicago. The Bears’ lone win during that stretch was in 2018.

  • The Green Bay Packers (12-3) destroyed the Tennessee Titans in a matchup of divisional leaders on Sunday Night Football. It was an impressive performance by the Packers, but it didn’t clinch the top spot in the NFC. If they lose this week, they could end up tied with Seattle who holds the tiebreaker and means that Green Bay would also lose out on the top seed.
  • The Chicago Bears (8-7) pummeled the Jaguars last weekend and are heating up at the right time. They’ve won three straight games and are on track to make the Playoffs if they can win this weekend. Will the Bears continue their winning streak or will they lose again to the Packers?

Head to Head Betting Trends

  • Packers are 8-2 SU in last 10 games
  • Packers are 6-4 ATS in last 10 matchups
  • The Over/Under is 5-5 in last 10 contests
  • Packers are 9-1 SU in last 10 games at Chicago
  • Packers are 15-5 ATS in last 20 meetings

Green Bay Packers Betting Trends

  • 5-0 SU in last five games
  • 8-3 SU in last 11 road games
  • 7-1 SU as a favorite of 3.5 to 9.5pts this season
  • 10-2 SU as a favorite this season
  • 9-2 SU in last 11 NFC games
  • 4-1 SU vs NFC North this season
  • 8-9 ATS in last 17 divisional games
  • 18-16 ATS as a favorite
  • Over is 6-0 in last six January games

Chicago Bears Betting Trends

  • 1-6 SU in last seven NFC games
  • 3-9 SU as an underdog of 3.5 to 9.5pts
  • 8-12 SU versus winning teams
  • 1-4 ATS in last five January games
  • 3-1 ATS as a home underdog of 3.5 to 7pts
  • 6-5 ATS versus the NFC this season
  • 10-7 ATS in last 17 divisional games
  • Over is 4-1 in last five games
  • Under is 14-4 in last 18 home games

The spread opened with the Packers favored by 4.5 to 5 points and went as high as 6pts, before settling at the current line of 5.5 points with most NFL betting sites. The Over/Under opened at 49 points and has gone up slightly to an O/U of 50.5 total points with most online betting sites.

Free NFL Sports Bet and Game Prediction: Over 50.5 points (-110)

Over the last three weeks, the Bears have rediscovered how to score on offense as they’ve put up a total of 110 points. That’s an average of 36.6ppg, which is their best offensive stretch of the season. Even in their two losses prior to the three game winning streak, the Bears put up 27.5ppg.

This Bears offense has turned it around and it has largely been due to the run game as David Montgomery has heated up. He will have a good matchup this week against a Packers defense that allows 113.1 rushing ypg.

With a desperate Bears team taking every chance they can to win on Sunday, I am not comfortable with the 5.5 point spread. Green Bay could win by a TD or Chicago could pull out a last minute win. Either way, it feels a bit risky.

Receiving TD’s this year :

• Carolina Panthers – 16

With that said, I do like the Over/Under for this game. As mentioned, the Bears offense is heating up and putting up points. They now average 23.7ppg and the Packers average 31.6ppg, which is a total of 55.3ppg.

In their first game this season, Green Bay won 41 to 25. I see this game being closer, but I like the two teams to combine for Over 51 points.

The Over is 4-1 in Chicago’s last five games. For Green Bay, the Over is 4-1 in their last five NFC North games and 6-0 in their last six January games. I’m taking the Packers to win 31 to 27, which puts us a touchdown over the 50.5 O/U.

Will the Bears Make the Playoffs?

Right now, Chicago holds the 7th seed in the NFC and can clinch a Playoff spot with a win against Green Bay or a loss by the Cardinals to the Rams on Sunday.

Unfortunately, I don’t see either scenario happening. The Packers will come out firing and doing everything they can to clinch the top seed in the NFC.

Additionally, the Cardinals will face the Rams with a backup QB starting as Jared Goff will miss the game due to having surgery on his thumb. This should help the Cardinals win the game and lock up the final NFC Playoff spot.
