he Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced August 17 record monthly revenue for the month of July, totaling $423.65 million generated from all forms of gaming regulated by the entity.
The figures respond to revenue including slot machines, table games, iGaming, sports wagering, fantasy contests and VGTs, with revenue from land-based casinos particularly strong for the past month as patrons return.
Table games achieved a record in revenue while slot machine revenue placed 4th all time for a month. Gross revenue from slot machines was up 12% versus same period 2019 while table games revenue was up 13% versus 2019. VGTs were responsible for revenue of $3.7 million.
iGaming keeps gaining importance, with total gross gaming revenue in July of $88.6 million. Sites reported revenue of $63.2 million from internet slots, $22.8 million from interactive tables and $2.6 million from online poker.
When comparing to 2019, as throughout 2020 most casinos remained closed for several months, total revenue for July 2021 was up 51% above July 2019, when total revenue was $281.4 million.
As of 2021, Pennsylvania’s gaming industry is the second-largest in the country, behind only Nevada. The new figures surpass previous record set in May, when the state posted gross gaming revenue of $413.1 million.
The top casino in terms of revenue for the month was Parx Philadelphia, with $64 million. Hollywood Penn National followed with $53.6 million revenue, and Rivers Philadelphia in a close third position with $50.2 million. Wind Creek Bethlehem and Valley Forget complete the top five with $43.9 million and $35.3 million respectively.
However, the state’s sports betting volume dropped last month, with $304.4 million wagered, while in June $420 million was wagered. The fall is in line with seasonal trends expected for this time of the year.
