We’ve already seen a number of exciting fights take place in 2020. Perhaps no bout is as highly-anticipated as the heavyweight trilogy between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. Interestingly, news has broken this week that promoters are looking to set a new date for Fury vs. Wilder 3.

This is guaranteed to be a massive fight. Those involved with putting it on want to ensure that it gets the most exposure possible. Today, we’re going to talk about when this blockbuster heavyweight matchup will come together.

Let’s get into it!

Boxing’s Heavyweight Division is Stacked With Talent

Boxing has been a hugely popular sport for decades. Historically speaking, the heavyweight division has always been the most popular weight class. Some of the most famous fighters in history including Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, and Evander Holyfield all competed in the heavyweight division.

Many believe the heavyweight division is better now than ever before. There are many world-class fighters in this weight class. Even the best boxing analysts have a difficult time saying who exactly is the best heavyweight alive today.

Some feel it’s Anthony Joshua. He’s currently 23-1 in his professional career with wins over several top fighters including Dillian Whyte, Wladimir Klitschko, and Joseph Parker. He even avenged the only loss of his career to Andy Ruiz back in December of 2019.

Anthony Joshua is scheduled to take on Kubrat Pulev next. It’s still not entirely clear when this fight will take place, yet it seems likely to happen before the end of 2020. Most online sports betting websites list Joshua has the massive favorite heading into this bout.

Many believe that Tyson Fury is now the best heavyweight boxer in the world. Not long ago, he defeated Deontay Wilder via 7th-round TKO. The two men were then expected to fight again sometime this summer. It was then pushed back to December 19th.

The promoters involved with this fight are now looking to schedule it once again.

Bob Arum Comments on a Possible New Date for Fury vs. Wilder 3

Scheduling major boxing matches has been difficult for obvious reasons this year. Even today, crowds are not allowed to attend any fights. That’d led to a serious drop in fight purses for boxers and fewer big fights than what would normally come about in a year.

For months, fans have been preparing to watch Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder fight for a third time on December 19th. That no longer appears to be the case. With several other sporting events booked on the 19th, promoters are now looking to reschedule.

Bob Arum, CEO of Top Rank, spoke about this situation to the media this week.

“We’re moving off because there’s five conference championship games that day and night, plus two NFL games,” Arum said. “So we can’t go with the 19th; we’re looking at other dates right now because ESPN advised us, and Fox advised the PBC [which promotes Wilder]. We’re looking at the schedule — PBC, Fox, ESPN and us — to pick a date.”

Many fans instantly became angry to hear about a new date for Fury vs. Wilder 3. This news may not necessarily be a bad thing, though. The most likely move is to simply push the fight back by a week. There’s even a chance it will take slightly earlier than initially planned!

We’re likely to hear more about this exciting heavyweight trilogy over the next few weeks. Make sure to stay tuned for updates!

Here’s Where to Bet On October’s Boxing Fights

October is already shaping up to be an incredible month for the sport of boxing. There are a huge number of exciting fights scheduled to take place over the next four weeks. That includes fights across several different weight divisions. Bovada, one of the best internet sportsbooks in the US, is now offering odds on this matchup.

One bout that many are looking forward to is the fight between Gervonta Davis and Leo Santa Cruz. Davis is thought of as one of the best young lightweights in the world today. He’s entering this contest as the -450 favorite.

Leo Santa Cruz isn’t a household name in boxing, yet hardcore fans know he’s a special talent. With a 37-1 record, he’ll have a real opportunity to pull off the upset. For now, he’s listed as the +325 underdog.

On Halloween, Oleksandr Usyk will be taking on Dereck Chisora in another huge heavyweight bout. Usyk might be the next big heavyweight in the sport and comes into this fight as the -800 favorite. Chisora has been a world-class heavyweight for years but comes into this fight as the +500 underdog.

We’ll soon hear more about the new date for Fury vs. Wilder 3. This fight will be hugely important for the entire division. The winner could find themselves taking on Anthony Joshua sometime in mid-2021.
