ast week, the South Dakota Commission on Gaming amended and passed the final sports betting regulations.

On August 2, the final regulations are expected to go before the state legislature for approval, and on the meeting that will be held on September 8, the Commission plans to approve operators, with the goal of launching retail sports betting in Deadwood on September 9, the first day of the 2021 NFL season. Last November, voters approved in-person wagering in Deadwood only.

The Commission is currently vetting prospective operators, but it did not release the names of the companies that have applied for licenses. Casinos operate only in the tourist town of Deadwood and in Indian Country.

Also last week, regulators in Wyoming posted applications for online sports wagering operators and online sports wagering vendors on Friday. Proposed rules are currently open for a public comment period that ends on July 31. Digital-only sports betting was legalized in the state on April 5.
