In the beginning of February, the hashtag #FireGinaCarano started trending after the former MMA fighter and co-star of The Mandalorian had made some insensitive posts that offended a lot of people. Eventually, the pressure was too much for Lucasfilm to handle and they fired Carano.

With Carano getting the axe from Disney’s hit show, many fans are left wondering what the producers of the show will do with the popular character Cara Dune.

Mandalorian betting sites have released odds on what might happen to Carano’s former character. Let’s take a look at these entertainment betting options and see if we can figure out what the fate of Mando’s pal Cara Dune will be.

Why Did Gina Carano Get Fired?

The frustrations with Carano stems back to last fall when she changed her profile to include some words that many took as Gina mocking trans people.

Carano denied any intentions of mocking trans people and didn’t understand the backlash. Eventually, she would credit her Mandalorian costar Pedro Pascal for helping her see why some people could be upset about her actions. Carano also gave the following response via social media:

“He helped me understand why people were putting them in their bios. I didn’t know before but I do now. I won’t be putting them in my bio but good for all you who choose to. I stand against bullying, especially the most vulnerable & [support] freedom to choose.”

A few months later, Carano made some tweets about the pandemic and the presidential election. It was then that Lucasfilm started considering firing Carano according to reports.

But, the 2nd season of The Mandalorian was about to come out and the people in charge decided against firing Carano at that time.

It was a wise choice because the sophomore season was a huge hit and Carano had a prominent presence throughout many episodes including the epic finale.

Unfortunately, about six weeks after the awesome season finale, Carano found herself embroiled in controversy once again as she posted some insensitive remarks on Instagram that became the final straw with Lucasfilm.

Carano’s posts continued her views on the political divide as she compared it to Nazi German:

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views”

Those comments blew the top off of the social media backlash. It ultimately forced Lucasfilm to fire her:

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

With Carano gone from The Mandalorian, and the Star Wars Universe, a large contingency of fans began a movement for Lucasfilm to bring her back. A petition on Change.org earned over 40,000 signatures to bring Gina back.

It didn’t take long before Carano commented on her firing. However, those who were expecting an apology were sorely mistaken. Instead, Gina spoke out about the cancel culture once again:

“I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

The former Mandalorian star has also stated that she was bullied by Disney and Lucasfilm. As of now, Carano remains fired and it’s unclear what they will do with the character Cara Dune.

With that said, let’s take a look at the following Mandalorian prop bet to examine what the show might do with the Cara Dune character.

Disney confirms that it has no plans to recast the role of Cara Dune after it fired actor Gina Carano. What happens to all the Cara Dune merch, then? Or her spin-off? https://t.co/0yseHALLsq

Mandalorian Betting Odds

  • Passed Away Off Screen (-140)
  • Not Mentioned (+120)
  • Re-Cast (+250)
  • Re-Hired (+1200)

The character Cara Dune was created by The Mandalorian head honcho Jon Favreau who specifically invented the character with Gina Carano in mind. Armed with that knowledge, let’s take a look at the following betting options:

Passed Away Off Screen (-140)

We’ve seen it many times in other shows where a character is killed off without the viewers seeing what happened. This could be another one of those moments where the producers and writers mention that Dune has died and then use that as part of the storyline.

Not Mentioned (+120)

Not mentioning Cara Dune would be a huge mistake. There were plans for Dune to be the main character in a Mandalorian spinoff.

Unfortunately, that’s all changed with Carano’s firing. Favreau and company can’t pretend that a popular character doesn’t exist anymore.

Re-Cast (+250)

Since Favreau created this character specifically for the show and for Carano, I don’t see any reason for a re-cast. This character is going to be dealt with one way or another. Plus, a report came out two weeks ago that a Disney spokesman said there won’t be re-cast for the Cara Dune character.

Re-Hired (+1200)

Even though there’s a petition to bring back Carano, it appears that Lucasfilm and Disney are determined not to bring her back. Although she was a popular character, the line has been drawn and there’s no budging from either side.

What Will Happen to Cara Dune?

When looking over the betting options, there’s really only one choice and that’s to kill off Cara Dune. They could do it in a way where we only see some piece of clothing that’s supposed to be her or some type of explosion and she’s said to have perished in it.

The death of Dune could be a huge part of season’s three overall storyline. Can you imagine Mando seeking revenge on those who killed his friend?

Or, it could end up being nothing big and just a passing moment of dialogue. Either way, I see the creators killing off the character moving forward.

Pick: Off Screen Death

Odds: -140
