Those who are waiting for the start of online sports betting in the state of Tennessee are beginning to see things take shape as the November launch date draws closer.

In fact, as the month of October is about to begin, the Tennessee Education Lottery Board’s Sports Wagering Committee officially announced that three sports betting operators have been approved for licenses.

This is exciting news for sports bettors in Tennessee as it means that not only will mobile betting be ready to go by early November, but that there will be plenty of reputable options for bettors to find the best odds.

Operators Have Been Announced

Those who have been approved for licenses are DraftKings, BetMGM, and FanDuel. These entities represent some of the industry’s most successful sportsbooks throughout the country.

As for the official launch date, it’s currently set for November 1st. Many industry insiders are taking a cautiously optimistic approach over the next few weeks to see if that start date can be met.

As things stand right now, the Sports Wagering Committee has gone ahead and approved 26 vendor applications and one supplier application. This is on top of the 13 vendor applications that had already been approved earlier in the year.

The committee will meet a few times in October in order to review any new or additional information and to look over any new applications that have been submitted.

Tennessee has made sure that there are no limits on the amount of licenses that can be granted, which makes it a very even playing field for sports betting operators and for those looking to place wagers.

Experienced and Reputable Sportsbooks

The good news for Tennessee is the fact that all three of the sportsbooks that have been granted licenses have plenty of experience and strong track records with online sports gambling and gaming.

They are already up and running in a handful of other states, so this can be seen as a natural extension from their point of view.

In terms of how many states have gone ahead and legalized sports betting, as of the summer that number stood at 18. With that said, five of those states, which includes Tennessee, have yet to go live with sports betting.

It was back in April that the rules for sports betting were agreed upon. This came after many months of debate and conversation. As part of the rules and regulations, a lottery corporation sports wagering advisory council had to also be created.

It will be up to lottery officials to oversee the entire industry in the state now. Keep in mind,

online sports betting on telecommunications platforms and mobile devices can only be engaged in by those who are 21 years of age and older.

Additionally, in order to place a mobile bet the person needs to be physically within the state borders of Tennessee at the time of placing the wager.
