The United Kingdom is home to many of the world’s best boxers. Unfortunately, the country has prohibited any fight cards from taking place due to health concerns. New reports claim UK boxing events are set to begin again in mid-February.

It’s great news for fight fans. Hope is that the UK is in a better situation next month than it currently finds itself in. Now is a perfect time to talk about some of the fights we could see taking place in the United Kingdom this year.

Let’s get into it!

2021 is Shaping Up to be a Massive Year for Boxing

Back in March of 2020, the sport of boxing was forced to come to a standstill. All major promotions shut down their operations. A number of massive boxing cards were canceled and no one knew when things could resume again.

In June, several major US boxing promotions began holding fight cards again. As time went on, more promotions started announcing return dates. By mid-summer, fans were treated to some huge title fights. It wasn’t easy, yet the sport was beginning to find its legs again.

Many believe that the events that unfolded in 2020 actually helped the sport of boxing grow. We saw world-class title fights, and devastating knockouts. Several massive upsets according to US online sports betting sites also took place in 2020.

Viewership for several events was significantly higher than for boxing events in years prior.

It now seems as if 2021 will be an even bigger year for boxing. Fans are now looking forward to some huge fights across multiple divisions. Many of these bouts feature fighters from the United Kingdom. This country is now home to some of the best fighters on the planet.

Not long ago, the UK government announced a new set of regulations around the country. That included a ban on all live sporting events. Many residents here have been asking when sports will be given permission to resume.

It now seems we have an answer! Boxing fans in the UK now have reason to celebrate. Here’s when fights can finally take place here again.

UK Boxing Events Are Expected to Take Place in February

The United Kingdom has always been home to a passionate boxing fan base. We’ve seen many world-class fighters emerge from this country over the past few decades. Now seems to be a better time for the UK boxing scene than ever before.

As we just mentioned, all major live sporting events were completely shut down in the UK recently. It’s been a huge disappointment for boxing fans desperate for some entertainment. These sports shutdowns won’t last forever, though.

News has just broken that UK boxing events are now officially set to resume in mid-February. The British Boxing Board of Control has confirmed the reports this week.

“The British Boxing Board of Control will be resuming boxing tournaments under its jurisdiction in the middle of February,” the commission wrote in an official statement.

This is what fans were hoping to hear. The UK is expected to host a number of huge title fights over the next eleven months. We’re likely to see several of the bouts recently canceled simply pushed back until February.

The sport of boxing seems to be growing every month. That is especially true in the UK. It’s great news to hear that boxing events will be allowed to take place in the country next month. Obviously, there are a few fights that fans are hoping to see.

UK boxers have begun to take over the sport recently. The fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury is now one of the most anticipated in heavyweight boxing history.

Here’s Another Update on Joshua vs. Wilder

The heavyweight division in boxing is stacked right now. Most fans and analysts agree that Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are the two best heavyweight boxers alive. Just about everyone wants to see them compete this year.

Joshua hails from Watford, England. Tyson Fury grew up as a traveler in England. These two men both have massive fan bases around the country. We’ve never seen a bigger fight between two UK-based fighters.

It now seems like this fight has been agreed to! Reports have come out claiming both Joshua and Fury have agreed to fight later this year. Most expect this bout to take place in the UK. Hopefully, it can take place safely in front of a live audience.

Oleksandr Usyk might be the only man capable of throwing a wrench into these plans. The Ukrainian boxer recently defeated Derek Chisora via unanimous decision. He is now the rightful number-one contender to Joshua’s title.

Usyk claims that he will not step aside and wait to see how Joshua vs. Fury plays out. He clearly wants his shot at Anthony’s belt. Hopefully, these men come to an agreement and the fight with Tyson Fury takes place.
