The Kansas City Chiefs will represent the American Football Conference in Super Bowl 55 live from Raymond James Stadium on February 7th. They are the reigning NFL Champions and favored to win SB LV with a moneyline of -170 and a spread of -3 points at -120 odds.

In this Super Bowl 55 betting preview, we will take a look at some of the major reasons why the Kansas City Chiefs can win SB LV.

Betting Trends that Favor the Chiefs

When looking at what the Chiefs have done since drafting Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 NFL Draft with the 10th overall pick, it has been absolutely remarkable.

First, we’ll take a look at some of the impressive betting trends for the Chiefs before examining some of their on-field success:

  • 16-2 SU this season
  • 44-11 SU over the last three seasons
  • 14-1 SU as a favorite this year
  • 8-0 SU in road games this year
  • 6-1 SU in last seven Playoff games
  • 10-3 SU in last 13 NFC games
  • 6-1 ATS when the line is +3 to -3 points

The Kansas City Chiefs have been almost unbeatable this season and the last three seasons since Mahomes has taken over as the starter. They haven’t lost a road game this year and they excel as the Favorite with a 14-1 SU record.

KC is 10-3 against the NFC the last few years, but went 4-0 against the conference this season with wins over the Buccaneers, Saints, Panthers and Falcons.

Typically, the Chiefs are often favored by spreads of a touchdown or more. Yet, when the spread is a FG in either direction, the Chiefs are 6-1 SU and 6-1 ATS.

The Best Player in the Game

There’s no arguing this statement, Patrick Mahomes is the best player in the NFL. In his 53 games as a starter, Mahomes is 44-9 which includes the postseason as well.

Patrick Mahomes will become the youngest quarterback in NFL history to start multiple Super Bowls next Sunday.

Mahomes has only lost four times at home, five times on the road, and has never lost by more than one possession. He’s also 6-1 in the postseason.

Mahomes finished the 2020 season with the following stats: 4,740 yards (2nd), 38 TDs (4th), 6 INTs (5th) and an 82.9 QBR (2nd). It was another stellar campaign for the face of the league. Mahomes will most likely finish 2nd in the MVP voting as Aaron Rodgers will most likely win it.

Speaking of Rodgers, Mahomes has passed him and Deshaun Watson in career passer rating with a 108.7 rating. He now holds the all-time mark.

Mahomes also holds the all-time mark in postseason career passer rating at 106.6, which surpasses Bart Starr who previously held the record with a 104.8 passer rating in the Playoffs.

Mahomes was the only QB to average over 300 passing yards per game this season. It’s the second time he’s accomplished this feat in his three years as a starter.

He’s averaging 290 passing ypg and a 118.5 rating in the Playoffs this year. If Mahomes didn’t get hurt in the Divisional Round matchup against the Browns, he would easily surpass 300 ypg in the postseason.

For his career, Mahomes has 114 TDs and just 24 INTs in the regular season. In the Playoffs, he has 17 TDs, 2 INTs, and four rushing TDs.

Super Bowl Experience

It can’t be stated enough, the Chiefs will have an edge in the SB 55 matchup against the Bucs because they’re playing in their second straight Super Bowl.

The experience will go a long way towards keeping the team calm and poised. Last year in SB 54, the Chiefs were rather anxious in the first half especially Mahomes. In fact, by the late 3rd quarter, the Chiefs were down by 10 points.

Yet, they went on to score 21 points in the final half of the 4th quarter and win the game.

Mahomes was able to settle down. The coaches got into a rhythm with the play calling. The offensive line played better in the second half.

This year, the Chiefs won’t have those jitters. They know what to expect. This will be a significant advantage for KC as a team. The majority of the Buccaneers’ roster has never been to a Super Bowl before.

The Most Unstoppable Offense

Last, but not least, the Chiefs have the most unstoppable offense in the league. The only thing that can stop this offense is an injury to Patrick Mahomes as we saw against the Browns in the Playoffs.

Most receiving yards in the postseason since 2018:

1. Tyreek Hill – 609

2. Travis Kelce – 565

3. Sammy Watkins – 464 pic.twitter.com/vrlDqKHmX0

Injury aside, the Chiefs are a powerhouse on offense. In the regular season, they were up at the top of the league in most major categories:

  • 415.8 total yards per game (1st)
  • 303.4 passing yards per game (1st)
  • 29.6 points per game (6th)

In the 2020 Playoffs, the Chiefs are averaging 391.3 total ypg, 30ppg, and 320 passing ypg. Keep in mind, that’s just 6 ½ quarters with Mahomes on the field.

Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12 of the 2020 regular season, the Chiefs put up 543 total yards and 27 points. Mahomes threw for 462 yards and 2 TDs.

Yet, the day belonged to WR Tyreek Hill who had 269 yards and 3 TDS on 13 receptions. He had arguably the best quarter of football that I’ve seen out of a receiver in recent memory.

Hill also dominated the AFC title game with 172 yards receiving.

He’s averaging 8.5 receptions and 141 ypg in the postseason. There’s nobody on the Bucs that can stop Hill. They will have to double team him in order to slow “The Cheetah” down.

When defenses double team Hill, tight end Travis Kelce then becomes even more dangerous. In two postseason games, Kelce is averaging 10.5 catches, 113.5 ypg, and 1.5 TDs per game.

There’s so much speed and trickery to this offense that most teams can’t stop them. The Bucs are in trouble come February 7th as Kansas City looks poised to win a 2nd straight Super Bowl.
