Gennady Golovkin is widely-considered to be one of the best middleweight boxers alive. Unfortunately, it’s beginning to seem unlikely that we will see him taking on Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez for a third time this year. Many fans now believe that Eubank vs. Golovkin is the best possible fight to make in the division.

Chris Eubank Jr. is a world-class fighter riding an impressive win streak. He has what it takes to push “GGG” and some even feel he would get the victory. Today, we’ll talk about what could lead to this fight coming together.

Let’s get into it!

Canelo Alvarez is Set to Face Avni Yildirim on February 27

It’s always difficult trying to argue who the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world is. The sport is stacked with talent right now and there are several fighters sitting at the top of the rankings. Many argue that Canelo Alvarez deserves to be called the best boxer alive.

Back in December, he took on Callum Smith in San Antonio, Texas. Some fans predicted Smith would be the toughest test of Canelo’s career. Several online sports betting sites listed the odds for this bout closer than many of his bouts in the past.

It didn’t take long for Alvarez to prove he is the superior boxer. He pushed the pace early and began picking Smith apart on the ropes. In the end, Canelo was declared the winner via clear unanimous decision. Many were left wondering if there are any tests left for the Mexican champion.

News has just come out that Canelo will be taking on Avni Yildirim on February 27. This will be a defense of his WBC super-middleweight title. It’s an exciting bout, yet one that just about everyone believes will go to Alvarez.

Of course, some fans are still calling for Canelo to take on Gennady Golovkin. These two men have competed twice in the past and it’s been a war each time. There are several issues in the way of getting the trilogy fight booked, though.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t any exciting fights for Canelo and Golovkin. Many are now beginning to speculate who will be next for “GGG.” One option seems to be gaining some traction.

Is Eubank vs. Golovkin the Best Fight to Make at Middleweight?

Gennady Golovkin was once considered the best boxer in the world. After one of the most incredible amateur careers in history, he transitioned into the professional game. It didn’t take long for him to rack up a 37-0 record against the highest level of competition.

In 2017 and 2018, “GGG” took on Canelo Alvarez. The first fight ended up being declared a draw. It was one of the best fights in recent history. The second bout was given to Canelo and was another instant classic.

Just about everyone wants to see the third fight. It has been difficult to book, though. Both men have taken different routes in their careers and some feel we will never be treated to the trilogy fight. One man is now pushing to take on Golovkin next.

Chris Eubank Jr. has been on fire lately. He is riding a three-fight win streak with two of those wins coming via stoppage. Eubank’s promoter, Kalle Sauerland claims this is the perfect fight to make for the division.

“Golovkin is the No 1 target. GGG is a legend but he’s there for the taking,” Sauerland said. “This is the right time to make the fight. It’s a great fight. It’s a fight you could do in the UK. Golovkin has fought here before. In normal times the logical place to make this fight would be the UK, maybe at Brighton’s football stadium. The timing is now right. Golovkin is at the top of our list.”

It’s fun to speculate how Eubank vs. Golovkin would play out. Both men are serious power punchers with solid chins. It’s reasonable to assume that Golovkin will come into this bout as the betting favorite. We’ll be sure to offer more updates on this fight over the next few months.

Looking at the Big Fights Taking Place Next Month

2021 is already shaping up to be a huge year for the sport of boxing. There are some massive bouts scheduled to take place over the next few months. February, in particular, is set to feature a number of high-profile bouts that fans are looking forward to. BetOnline is offering some incredible odds for all of these matchups.

That includes the fight between Anthony Fowler and Jorge Fortea. Fowler (-1250) is now 13-1 in his career with10 knockouts. Fortea (+700) will need to have the performance of a lifetime in order to get the victory next month.

Perhaps the biggest fight is the unusual exhibition between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul. Mayweather comes into this bout as the -2000 favorite. YouTube star Logan Paul is currently listed as the +750 underdog.

Many are becoming interested in the prop bets for Mayweather vs. Paul. Some of these are offering the chance to win a huge amount of money. It’s a fun way to get more invested in this interesting clash.

If all goes according to plan, we could see Eubank vs. Golovkin this year, too. This would be one of the biggest middleweight clashes in recent history. Perhaps the winner would find themselves standing across from Canelo Alvarez in the future.
