The Cherokee Nation Businesses (CNB)’s Pope County casino project in Arkansas has received approval from the city of Russellville. However, despite the latest approval of a large-scale development plan, the question of whether the casino will be built remains, as there is litigation against Legends Resort and Casino and more than 100,000 signatures that require a ballot measure pulling Pope County out of the casino running for good. For the first time in two years, the government shut down all its casinos on Monday, in an attempt to stop a spike in the number of new Covid-19 cases. According to analysts, casinos have had close to zero revenue since mid-June, when the city’s outbreak began, and they are expected to have little to no income in the coming months. Even prior to their closure, analysts estimated the casinos were burning through some $600 million each month because of COVID restrictions. Having invested billions in Macau over the last two decades, Wynn Macau, MGM China, Galaxy Entertainment, SJM Holdings,…
Maryland is inching closer to launching online sports betting in the state after the Sports Wagering and Application Review Commission (SWARC) approved Wednesday a slate of regulations and applications needed to this end. The SWARC has now reworked its licensing criteria in an effort to expedite launch. Governor Larry Hogan has been critical of the much-delayed process, saying the more the state takes to get mobile betting off the ground, the more money Maryland is missing out on. He wants the committee…
