Macau’s gaming regulator has issued an instruction to junket operators to stop offering credit to their customers and requesting that chip purchases can only be done for upfront cash. The order from Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) would effectively bar all junkets from providing loan services to VIP gamblers. Casinos in Baltimore announced in-person sports betting will take off on Friday, December 10. Horseshoe Casino Baltimore and Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland both plan to launch their sportsbooks with ribbon-cutting ceremonies, providing they are granted the final state approval after two days of controlled demonstrations earlier this week. Chicago city is now proposing to impose its own 2% on gross revenues from sports betting, which would bring the total tax collected in the city to 19%, under a revised ordinance poised for City Council approval this week. A New Jersey bill to amend the casino payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) law and provide substantial tax relief to Atlantic City casinos passed the state Senate budget committee Monday without discussion of its fiscal estimate, and without the presence of any casino representative. Four Atlantic City casinos might close if the bill doesn’t succeed. Bill S4007 mainly removes sports and internet gaming revenues from the definition of gross gaming revenues. Maryland-based The Cordish Companies will sell its three casino properties, Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland, Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia, and Live! Casino Pittsburgh, to a Pennsylvania-based real estate investment trust that specializes in gaming sites, Gaming and Leisure Properties (GLPI), in a deal valued at $1.8 billion. Penn National Gaming, which had previously said that Hollywood Casino Morgantown would open by the end of the year, has confirmed the property’s opening date. Ontario’s Auditor General Bonnie Lysyk released a 12-page report Wednesday, titled “Internet Gaming in Ontario”, which questions whether online gambling and sports betting “may be open to legal challenge under Canada’s Criminal Code”.
