Communication, flexibility and technology, among the insights shared by Casino Cosmopol CEO I n a new paper from UNLV’s International Gaming Institute (IGI), researchers compiled key insights from Casino Cosmopol, a casino in Stockholm, Sweden that remained open through the end of March as counterparts in Nevada and around the world, closed. The casino, like properties around the world, eventually shut down, but during it’s extended time open, IGI researchers were able to glean best practices that operators around the world can learn from. Casino Cosmopol, unlike casinos in Nevada and elsewhere, had to “adapt on the run,” and did…

If you’re like me, you’ve most likely been sitting at a table and questioned what it’s like to work at a casino. While television shows and movies often glamorize casinos and depict dealers and employees as smooth talkers who rarely crack under pressure, that stereotype doesn’t tell the entire story. If you’ve been gambling long enough, there’s no doubt you’ve sat next to a belligerent gambler who blames his misfortune on the dealer or someone who wins big and decides to stiff the dealer on a tip. Additionally, not all casino jobs involve dealing cards. Here are 7 things pop…
New York has had tribal casinos since 1993. They legalized commercial casinos in 2013. Between the two types of gambling venues, the Empire State features numerous slot machines. However, it doesn’t gain as much attention for its table games. As a result, some gamblers wonder if they can even play blackjack and other table games in this state. I’ll answer this question while discussing New York’s gambling laws along with what forms of blackjack, if any, are available. Blackjack Is Legal in New York – To a Degree NY commercial and Native American casinos appear similar in many respects. But…

Card counters have long dealt with casinos harassing and even banning them. However, they rarely have to face the courtroom. Card counting isn’t illegal in any well-established gambling jurisdictions. After all, skill-based play isn’t a crime. Nevertheless, Casino Windsor (now Caesars Windsor) once tried prosecuting a group of card counters. I’ll discuss this case below along with how badly it played out for the casino. Tommy Hyland Team Decimates Casino Windsor for $100,000 New casinos often serve as popular targets of card counters. Casino Windsor was no exception when it opened in 1994. A mid the coronavirus pandemic, state lotteries across the US have seen mixed and opposed results. Since March, Texas, Arkansas and Montana and several other states have seen an increase in sales, in part, driven by housebound residents putting cash down for scratch-off tickets. But lottery officials say other states, like Massachusetts and Oregon, confronted revenue drops due to stay-at-home orders that forced the closure of restaurants, bars and some retailers selling tickets. Some also blamed a lack of an online presence, something only a handful states currently allow, according to an analysis by the Associated Press. “We got used…

Iowa governor ordered the 19 casinos closed March 17 and weren’t allowed to open until May 31. “Those months that were closed really did have a significant impact. Up until the pandemic, the industry had been doing really well. I think some of that could be attributed to the impact from sports wagering,” Brian Ohorilko said, as reported by Radio Iowa. The report released Thursday showed gross casino…
